July 21, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

We were fortunate enough to attend an early screening of Bo Burnham's tenderly awkward debut film, Eighth Grade, this past Wednesday, which included a Q&A session with Bo Burnham, Elsie Fisher, Jake Ryan, Emily Robison, Imani Lewis, and Fred Hechinger. The post-film discussion was  an absolute delight to attend and was filled with lots of interesting tidbits from beyond the veil of the film. Being generous, as we are at Viddy Well, we've decided to share it with you, naturally.

Top 5: Greatest Casts Of The 90s

June 08, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

boogie-nights-cast.jpg

The right cast can make or break a film, and in some cases, the casting can even elevate a bad film. Films with phenomenal casts always pique interest, and generally warrant a watch without question. It takes a great script and (usually) a great director to employ an all-star cast; however, when it's done effectively, the result is instant cinema gold.

5 Fun Facts From The Super Troopers 2 Broken Lizard Q&A

April 15, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

Q&A.JPG

Starting March 19th, the Broken Lizard crew (consisting of Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, and Kevin Heffernan) embarked on a 3-week cross-country tour that spanned 12 major U.S. cities to premiere their highly anticipated new film: Super Troopers 2. Best of all, the Broken Lizard would be hanging out afterwards for a brief audience Q&A and photos. They couldn't have been nicer guys, and they were extremely humbled by all love fans showed. Steve Lemme even made the comment that they "thank [fans] two times"; one for donating to their crowdfunded efforts, and another for showing the Hollywood studio that there were still fans out there, which was something the studio system didn't have faith in.

5 Fun Facts About Super Troopers

April 11, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

Super-Troopers-Broken-Lizard-970x545.jpg

Released 17 years ago in 2001, Broken Lizard's second feature (after their lesser known debut Puddle Cruiser) put them on the map and quickly made them everyone's favorite loveably dumb cops with their silly antics. Due to the film's strong word-of-mouth, it quickly climbed to cult status and has since become a staple of the stoner comedy genre. The film's fun and games even found its way into the realm of professional hockey when Ray Kaunisto of the Kalamazoo Wings snuck in seven meows during a 40-second intermission interview, which is impressive even by Super Troopers standards.

5 Of The Baddest Babes Of Blaxploitation

February 03, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

Screen Shot 2018-02-03 at 4.45.51 PM.png

The blaxploitation movement gave us some of the earliest instances of strong, independent and kickass women in film. These women took action into their own hands and weren't so thinly drawn that they require a man to come to their rescue. In fact, these films allowed the women to do the saving for once. The depictions of female characters in early blaxploitation films would make a great impact on cinema and how it views women. These films would also go on to inspire future filmmakers to create empowering female characters. However, out of the thousands of blaxploitation films to emerge, only a handful of actresses would make a lasting impression.

The 5 Unsung Films Of 2017

January 21, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

Screen Shot 2018-01-21 at 10.33.51 AM.png

In a sea of worthy competition, it's not uncommon for some great films to get eclipsed by the year's other contenders. There is, after all, a staggering amount of new releases each year, and some of them are here and gone in the blink of an eye or don't even reach our theaters at all. This makes it easy for a great film to go by unnoticed, and even when they do get seen, they don't always get the love and attention they deserve. Well, we refuse to let those worthy gems from 2017 go by unsung!

The 5 Most Disappointing Films Of 2017

January 16, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

share.jpg

While there were several exceptional films last year, there was also an abundance of steamy crap too. Generally, a rotten film can be easily sniffed out (like The Emoji Movie, The Dark Tower, or CHiPs), so some bullets can easily be avoided; however, there are a few occasions where a film's marketing can get you excited for what they already know is a muggy mound of unacceptable trash. There are also a handful of screenwriters and directors attached to projects that get you pumped, and then ultimately disappointed. We've already shared our favorite films from last year with you, and now it's time to share our picks for the worst.

5 Great Films To Watch While Hungover

January 01, 2018  /  Aaron Haughton

Screen Shot 2017-12-27 at 6.39.17 PM.png

There are few things in life worse than a hangover, and even fewer things that really assuage its crippling effects. Thankfully — at least if you're like me — movies are one of those things that help dull that dreaded hangover pain (and, well...just about any pain really). If it's background noise you need, you can put on just about anything, but I'm convinced that a few select films can sincerely help ease you out of your hangover woes, in conjunction with a boatload of H2O too, of course. Grab your favorite blanket and any electrolytes you can find, and curl up into the fetal position with one of these great films.
